The upgraded version adds a twin-scroll turbocharger that increases output to a maximum of 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines pair with a Skyactiv®-Drive six-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ AWD®. Meanwhile, the hybrid engine that debuted last year for this new Mazda SUV pairs the 2.5-liter engine with three electric motors, outputting 219 horsepower combined.

Cargo and Towing

The capable powertrains of the 2026 Mazda CX-50 allow for ample towing capacity. Properly equipped trims with the standard 2.5-liter engine can tow up to 2,000 lbs. Upgrading to the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine increases towing capacity to 3,500 lbs when the available Towing mode and genuine Mazda hitch are included.

In terms of cargo space, the 2026 Mazda CX-50 offers 56.3 cubic feet with the second row folded down, and 31.4 cubic feet with it up.
